State-wide Lightning Awareness Campaign inaugurated

The state-wide lightning awareness campaign supported by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) was launched at a function held in Government Arts College, Kozhikode, at 11 am on June 20, 2015. The district organisation of the National Green Corps helped in organising the function. Although the Hon’ble Minister for Panchayats and Social Welfare, Dr. M.K. Muneer had agreed to inaugurate the campaign and the District Collector Sri N. Prasanth had agreed to preside over the function, neither of them could attend due to official programmes. In their absence, Dr. V. Sasi Kumar chaired the function and Dr. Kamalakshan Kokkal, Joint Director, KSCSTE inaugurated the awareness campaign. Mr Sijesh, Coordinator, NGC, Kozhikode, delivered the vote of thanks.

Subsequently, the workshops for school teachers and the public were held the same morning. Dr. S. Murali Das and Sri Aswin Chand spoke to the participants on how to avoid personal danger and how to protect property during lightning activity.
