Lightning Incidents
Two lady workers got fainted due to Lightning – Reported on Mathrubhumi Trivandrum Edition on 25th September 2014
This incident took place on a Cashewnut Factory near Bhajanamadom in Malayankeezhu. Two lady workers were doing their job nearby the shed. We went there investigating the causes and remedies and came to know that lightning came and hit on the sheet creating damage to the sheet itself, bulbs and wirings creating a ground potential rise which affected the lady workers and got fainted. By god’s grace they were saved as they got the first aid at right time.
If they had got the proper lightning awareness this couldn’t had happened.
- Avoid unprotected open buildings like shed.
- Stay away from walls, windows, doors and porches.
- Unplug any appliances and electrical equipment before lightning is going to occur.
- If caught in lightning with no safe location nearby, you should crouch, feet together and hand over ears for protection. Remember, use this as a desperate last resort only!
- For Building Protection, Lightning protection System should be installed as per the standards and should be well maintained.
- For Equipment Protection, Surge Protection Devices should be installed as per the standards.
